Foundations of Spinal Manipulation
2 Day Course | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
This two-day spinal manipulation course focuses on the safe and effective application of thrust manipulation to the spine. The latest research regarding the safety and efficacy of joint manipulation will be discussed as well as the evidence supporting the utilization of spinal manipulation for various dysfunctions of the spine.
Participants will learn high-velocity low-amplitude thrust manipulations of the cervical spine, cervicothoracic junction, thoracic spine, thoracolumbar junction, lumbar spine, lumbosacral junction, and sacroiliac joint.
No Prerequisites are required for this two-day course; however, participants must be licensed Physical Therapists or DPT students in their final year.
The foundations of Spinal Manipulation course is approved for 15 CCUs by each respective state board.

Course Objectives
- Describe the indications, precautions, and contraindications to spinal manipulation.
- Describe the best current available evidence regarding the use of High Velocity Low Amplitude (HVLA) thrust techniques.
- Describe clinical screening tests for cervical arterial dysfunction and cervical instability.
- Describe coupling patterns of the spine and the use of coupling in spinal positioning and locking techniques in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions.
- Describe various methods of spinal manipulation for the cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and sacroiliac regions.
- Refine palpation skills and psychomotor skills.
- Demonstrate safe and effective HVLA techniques for the cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and sacroiliac regions.

10:30 – 11:15 Side lying manipulation of the sacroiliac joint to correct posterior iliac rotation
11:15 – 12:00 Side lying manipulation of the sacroiliac joint to correct anterior iliac rotation
12:00 – 1:00 Lunch (on own)
1:00 – 2:00 Supine manipulation of the sacroiliac joint to correct anterior iliac rotation
2:00 – 3:00 Upper cervical thrust manipulation
3:00 – 4:00 Chin pivot manipulation technique for the cervicothoracic junction
